Professor Realff completed his Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Imperial College London in 1986, and a Ph.D. at MIT in 1992. He is the David Wang Senior Faculty Fellow in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Tech. Professor Matthew Realff's overall research interests are in process and sustainable systems engineering. He has worked closely with the carpet industry in developing recycling technology and strategy. He chairs sustainability assessment and environmental leadership standards development committees in the area of PV Modules and Computer Servers. He is the Associate Director of the Georgia Tech Strategic Energy Institute with responsibility for advanced materials and separations applications for energy systems and an Associate Director of the Georgia Tech Renewable Bioproducts Institute to help develop programs in chemicals and fuels with a focus on lignin isolation and conversion. He is the Editor-in-Chief of a new AIChE Journal – Journal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing.
