After leading the Capital Planning & Space Management department for many years, Howard was recently promoted to Institute Architect where he has strategic oversight of the Campus Master Plan, Landscape Master Plan, Historic Preservation Plan, campus-wide sustainability initiatives, curation of public art, and most things that are visually exposed. He is responsible for the aesthetics and visual vocabulary of the campus, which currently includes over 16M square feet of space in 200 buildings on 400 acres. He focuses on the holistic integration of architecture, landscape, engineering, technology, ecology, sustainability and fiscal stewardship. He views every project site as a 400 acre ecosystem, interconnected through a network of utility distribution systems, stormwater, tree canopy, pedestrian and vehicular circulation  zones, transportation networks and universal accessibility challenges associated with the unique Piedmont topographic challenges on the Georgia Tech campus.  Howard is a frequent lecturer and presenter, and most recently, he has delivered numerous papers across the country on the Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design, anticipated to be one the most environmentally advanced education and research buildings on a college campus in the Southeast.
