3. Long-term Partnerships
SLS Service Learning and Community Engagement opportunities create unique experiences for Georgia Tech students to become collaborators, co-educators and co-researchers with community organizations, nonprofits, government agencies, and businesses. To facilitate these unique opportunities, SLS seeks “systemic engagement” through long-term collaborations that draw on regional networks of partners and are situated within one of SLS’s six Priority Issue Areas. Those Issue Areas include: Community Health; Green Infrastructure; Equitable and Sustainable Development; Climate Change and Energy; Social Innovation; and the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. The RCE Greater Atlanta is a key example of a network of partners through which a single project situated in an issue area and supported by multiple stakeholders can transform a SLCE opportunity into systemic engagement. SLS’s approach to systemic engagement for systemic impact is informed, in part, by the works listed below.
