Call for Applications: Spring 2022 Sustainability/SDG Education Teaching Fellows Program
Deadline: Thursday, January 13, 2022, 5:00pm
Program Overview: The Sustainability/SDG Education Teaching Fellows Program builds upon Serve-Learn-Sustain (SLS) Fellows and Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Teaching Fellows Programs. The SLS Fellows Program fosters interdisciplinary learning communities by bringing together diverse faculty, staff, and graduate students to examine and apply key themes related to sustainable communities. CTL Teaching Fellows Programs bring together a diverse group of interdisciplinary faculty to engage in conversations about teaching. Fellows support each other as they apply insights to their own teaching practice and become champions for inclusive and engaging education in their schools and colleges.
The Spring 2022 Sustainability/SDG Education Teaching Fellows Program will advance the work of the participants to incorporate the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sustainability competencies in their teaching. In so doing, Fellows will advance the Institute Strategic Plan (ISP) goal to provide all students with transformative learning experiences to grow as creative, ethical, globally aware, technologically sophisticated leaders who can define and solve problems to improve the human condition.
Fellows will choose to either focus on 1) advancing professional development in sustainability education, which may include designing workshops, training materials, or conference presentations; or 2) advancing their own sustainability teaching through course re-design, module development, or projects that prepare students to be sustainability change-makers. At the conclusion of this one-semester program, the resources developed by the Fellows will be made available to other faculty through SLS’ and CTL’s web pages.
Activities: In addition to working on a project that they define, Fellows will attend three 90-minute sessions where we will work together to craft recommendations for instructor professional development in sustainability/SDG teaching and strategies for advancing sustainability education across the curriculum.
Who Should Apply? Faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students, including previous SLS or CTL Fellows, are welcome to apply. Applicants should have teaching responsibilities in the next year that can be related to sustainability and/or the U.N. SDGs and be excited about advancing sustainability/SDG education in collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of instructors.
How to Apply: Submit your application via this online portal by the deadline: January 6, 5pm.
The application asks for brief descriptions of your teaching activities related to sustainability and the SDGs, your interest in the Fellows program, and your proposed project. Postdoctoral fellows and graduate student applicants must also include a CV and a letter of recommendation from their faculty advisor.
