Overview:

The Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain aims to help students create sustainable communities, where humans and nature flourish in the present and future. One SLS Priority area concerning sustainable communities is information about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Helpful Resources on the SDGs

The UN Global Goals website, found here, outlines each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the metrics that are used to measure progress towards them. The website also has a list of video resources.

Additional details on the Sustainable Development Goals can also be found on the UN’s main website.

SDG Academy features 32 online courses about the SDGs that can be sorted by individual goal.

SDG Zone offers short web modules written for students concerning aspects of the SDGS.

For more information on how the Sustainable Development Goals are being implemented and prioritized at Georgia Tech, watch President Cabrera’s address launching SDG implementation at Georgia Tech.

An additional video resource related to teaching about the SDGs at Georgia Tech is available here: “Advancing the UN SDGs & Education for Sustainable Development at Georgia Tech and Across the Greater Atlanta Region.”

Information about Regional Centres of Expertise on ESD (RCEs)

The United Nations has encouraged the development of Regional Centers of Expertise (RCEs), which are regional networks that serve to bring together local educational institutions, non-profits, and other partners to further local education and knowledge-building about sustainable development. RCE Greater Atlanta “supports implementation of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals at the regional level through education and training.”

RCE Greater Atlanta maintains a Wiki which compiles resources on the UN SDGs and sustainable development. RCE Greater Atlanta has also facilitated the following events:

Tackling SDG 10: Reducing Inequalities in Atlanta

Atlanta Global Studies Symposium at Georgia Tech - RCE Greater Atlanta Track, Session 1: Advancing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) through RCEs

Youth and the SDGs Virtual Showcase

The Showcase highlighted the launch of a UNITAR supported e-learning programme, "Youth & the Sustainable Development Goals."  The e-learning modules were developed by RCE Greater Atlanta Youth Network members, in partnership with the International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Atlanta (CIFAL Atlanta), Kennesaw State University, the Georgia Tech’s Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain, and RCE Greater Atlanta, through a grant from the Turner Foundation.
