Management in the Healthcare Sector

This course will explore the healthcare sector in its most comprehensive sense. It will analyze the healthcare “system” across the continuum of patient care – from prevention, to early detection, to diagnosis and treatment, to palliative care. Students will gain exposure to and knowledge of the many components of the industry, including issues in finance, accounting, supply chain, organizational behavior, strategy, healthcare IT, ethics, regulatory policy, and workforce planning and development.

Social Entrepreneurship

Social enterprises are dedicated to creating social value by attracting private and public funds to address the challenges of society. They may take the form of a nonprofit, for-profit or hybrid organization. These organizations apply business and market principles in their efforts to solve problems not addressed by the private sector and governments. One of the critical tasks of social enterprises is to grow and scale, as the consequences of poverty, environmental issues, education, and human injustices are global and systemic.

Career Success II

This course is focused on providing students opportunities to develop and reinforce tools and techniques to successfully become employed and maintain employment. Through this course, students will engage in internship opportunities on and off-campus that align with their career interests. Partnerships are created with university departments and independent organizations to facilitate the learning objectives and foster an inclusive learning environment. Class participants will learn the benefits of work, both for themselves and their contribution to society and the business community.

Impact Forum

Each individual has a unique capacity to contribute his or her expertise, talents, and experiences to create a significant impact in his or her life and in the lives of others in their communities.  Through readings, discussions,group projects, and a line-up of guest speakers who have had an impact on their communities, the course will provide you with an introspective and experiential platform to realize what your impact can be in the world.

Leadership Minor Capstone - Social Impact Organizations

This is a capstone style course where most of the learning will be generated through a project with a social sector (social enterprise or nonprofit) organization, and by attending the weekly IMPACT Speaker series talks.  The groundwork for understanding the opportunities and challenges of the social sector will be covered through readings, TED style videos, student-led class discussions, and by a site visit to a local nonprofit organization.

Social Diversity

This course will lead students to understanding that creating a diverse, inclusive environment requires respectful, thoughtful and intentional efforts of everyone on campus. Sustainable Marketing

As environmental and social consciousness has grown in recent years, sustainability has emerged as an important market driver with the potential to grow profits and spur value creation. As a result, firms are increasingly making sustainability a strategic priority. This course considers sustainability through the lens of the marketing discipline. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and class projects, this course examines the ways in which firms adapt their marketing strategies to meet business as well as societal needs.

Introduction to Organizational Behavior

MGT 3101 Organizational Behavior is a field that seeks to understand, explain and ultimately improve organizational behavior in organizations. This survey course informs students on fields such as motivation, performance, teams, pro-social behavior, diversity, servant leadership, and ethics in organizations in order to create leadership skills required for creating sustainable, community-oriented organizations.
