The Excel Collaborative Community Garden was an opportunity for Degree-seeking and Certificate-seeking students to come alongside each other to work towards a common goal. Students learned that each person could contribute a specific value to a group, and students were able to demonstrate their strengths outside of a traditional classroom setting. PSP funding was used to purchase a curriculum to utilize to ensure that students learning was focused on the basics of horticulture, personal growing and the impact on sustainability. Students had the opportunity to visit a local urban farm and witness what it looked like to turn a passion into a career, as well as gain exposure to careers that they would be qualified for upon graduation. The project would not have been possible without funding from the PSP and we look forward to the opportunities that will develop in the future.
